Almost Maine 2017 at Northeast Alabama Community College
Almost Maine directed by Mark Webb was my first MainStage design at NACC and really wanted to create something magical for our aurora borealis. It started with our star drop, made by taking a black full stage curtain and pinning C9 Christmas lights to it. Then black capping about 60% of the lights so that it looked less uniform. Then adding in a ground row of led fixtures that could dance across the scrim in a mixture of horizontal and vertical diffusion. After that I used the truss holding our forrest scenic element to hold 4 Source four fixtures with gobo rotators that moved the sky in a slow whip that created a snake effect through the sky. This truly was one of my most favorite projects to work on and I can always look back and remember the magic we created with this show.
